III Sunday of Lent

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." (John 4, 7)

What could ever be that living water which quenches every thirst, recreates every spirit, satisfies every desire? What is that miraculous source from which gushes forth this spring of water that removes the thirst in eternity? Here it is on the Eucharistic Altar, the perennial fountain of the water of Grace. Here the thirst for human greed is quenched, the passion of concupiscence is extinguished, the ardent desires of loving souls are satisfied. This is the water which cleanses and purifies, the beneficial rain that penetrates in the belly of the earth, in the midst of the dryness of the spirit, and produces fruits of eternal life; this is the ever-flowing river that never runs dry, this is the sea of every delight, the torrent of every love! The ocean of every happiness.

Jesus seated at the side of this mysterious fountain waits for all souls to turn to them the loving gazes of his charity. He invites us to this mystical spring; see the sweet advances of our dear Jesus; He showed himself thirsty for our souls, and hidden in that sacred Host, he seems to repeat night and day to our spirit, like that day to the Samaritan woman: Daughter, give me a drink. O soul redeemed through my precious Blood, I thirst for you, I thirst for your desires, for your thoughts; for your affections, for your will.

Therefore, let us tell him with the Samaritan woman: Sir, give us this water, so that we may not be thirsty anymore for worldly things.
