Mons. Rolando Santos CM, Vescovo di Sideia-Alotau in Papua Nuova Guinea, ha effettuato la sua visita pastorale al Centro Missionario di Sideia sull'isola di Sideia e alle sue varie istituzioni e centri di messa dal 16 al 19 agosto 2024. La comunità parrocchiale, con tutti i Rogazionisti che lavorano nel Centro Missionario e i parrocchiani, ha accolto calorosamente il Vescovo con danze, canti e sventolio di bandiere da parte degli studenti di tutti gli istituti che si recavano in chiesa. Una volta arrivato in chiesa, il vescovo ha subito venerato la croce della missione. Padre Welbert, il parroco, ha pregato sul vescovo come parte del rito. In seguito si sono recati alla casa della missione per il pranzo. Nel pomeriggio visitarono le varie istituzioni dell'isola.
Il giorno seguente, 17 agosto, il Vescovo ha avuto un programma fitto di visite alle comunità a piedi e in barca.
STAZIONE MISSIONARIA DI WANAHAWA: la mattina presto, il Vescovo Santos, accompagnato dai padri Welbert Suarez, Paul John Mapacpac, JR Arreza e dal signor Charles, presidente del consiglio pastorale parrocchiale, si è recato al Centro di Messa dell'isola di Wanahawa per celebrare la Santa Messa e il Sacramento della Cresima. All'arrivo sulla spiaggia di Wanahawa, gli studenti si sono schierati con le bandiere e hanno eseguito danze culturali per dare il benvenuto al Vescovo.
ST. JOSEPH HEALTH CENTER:
Alle 15:00 il Vescovo Santos ha visitato il St. Joseph Health Center. Il personale sanitario, guidato dalla signora Bagita, infermiera, gli ha dato un caloroso benvenuto e lo ha aggiornato sui pazienti e sulle strutture del centro sanitario. Il Vescovo Rolando ha condiviso un messaggio ispiratore basato sul suo motto “CARITAS ET MISSIO” - Carità e Missione. Durante il forum aperto, Suor Bagita ha espresso gratitudine per la presenza del Vescovo e ha evidenziato alcune questioni urgenti.
ISTITUTO DI FORMAZIONE PROFESSIONALE DI ST ANNE: alle 18:00 circa, il Vescovo Rolando è arrivato all'Istituto di Formazione Professionale di St. Anne dopo aver viaggiato fino all'isola di Wanahawa. È stato accolto calorosamente dagli studenti, dagli insegnanti e dal consiglio di amministrazione.
Nel suo discorso, il Vescovo ha parlato con passione del tema della SPERANZA, che sarà al centro delle celebrazioni del Giubileo del prossimo anno. Ha esortato tutti ad abbracciare la preghiera come mezzo essenziale per alimentare questa speranza. “Per vivere una vita felice”, ha detto, ‘non dobbiamo solo cercare la gioia per noi stessi, ma anche condividerla con gli altri attraverso la preghiera’.
ST. MARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: In tarda serata, verso le 19:00, il Vescovo Rolando ha visitato la scuola elementare di St. Mary, iniziando con una preghiera. Il vescovo ha poi incoraggiato gli insegnanti e il personale nel loro apostolato di educazione dei bambini. È seguito un forum aperto.
Papua New Guinea: Pastoral Visit 2024 to the Sideia Mission Center
Bishop Rolando Santos CM, Bishop of Sideia-Alotau in Papua New Guinea, made his pastoral visit to the Sideia Mission Center on the island of Sideia and its various institutions and Mass Centers from August 16 to 19, 2024. The parish community, with all the Rogationists working in the Mission Center and the parishioners, warmly welcomed the Bishop with dances, songs and the waving of flags by the students of all the institutions on their way to the Church. Upon arriving at the church, the bishop immediately venerated the mission cross. Father Welbert, the parish priest, prayed over the bishop as part of the rite. Afterwards they went to the mission house for lunch. In the afternoon they visited the various institutions on the island.
The following day, August 17, the Bishop had a full schedule of visits to the communities on foot and by boat.
WANAHAWA MASS CENTER: Early in the morning, Bishop Santos, accompanied by Frs. Welbert Suarez, Paul John Mapacpac, JR Arreza and Mr. Charles, president of the parish pastoral council, went to the Mass Center in the Island of Wanahawa to celebrate Holy Mass and the Sacrament of Confirmation. Upon arrival at the beach in Wanahawa, the students lined up with flags and performed cultural dances to welcome the Bishop.
ST. JOSEPH HEALTH CENTER:
At 3:00 p.m., Bishop Santos visited St. Joseph Health Center. The health staff, led by Mrs. Bagita, nurse, gave a warm welcome and updated him on the patients and facilities of the health center. Bishop Rolando shared an inspiring message based on his motto "CARITAS ET MISSIO" - Charity and Mission. During the open forum, Sr. Bagita expressed gratitude for the Bishop's presence and highlighted some pressing issues.
ST ANNE'S SKILLS TRAINING INSTITUTE: At approximately 6:00 p.m., Bishop Rolando arrived at St. Anne's Skills Training Institute after traveling all the way from Wanahawa Island. He was warmly welcomed by the students, teachers and the board of directors.
In his address, the Bishop spoke passionately about the theme of HOPE, which will be the focus of next year's Jubilee celebration. He urged everyone to embrace prayer as the essential way to nourish this hope. "To live a happy life," he said, "we must not only seek joy for ourselves, but also share it with others through prayer."
ST. MARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Later in the evening, around 7:00 p.m., Bishop Rolando visited St. Mary Elementary School, beginning with a prayer. The bishop then encouraged the teachers and staff in their apostolate of educating the children. An open forum followed.
