The year-long celebration of the 40 years of Rogationist presence and service in the Philippines kicked off with the ordination of five priests of St. Matthew Province: Fr. Jessel Bangoy, Fr. Tristan Angelo Palado, Fr. Welbert Llyd Suarez, Fr. Francisco Gringo Tagabi and Fr. Sherwin Valenzuela. Most Rev. Socrates Villegas, DD, Archbishop of Ligayen-Dagupan and the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines presided over the Rite of Ordination at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish in Multinational Village, Parañaque City, on November 26, 2016. Fr. Herman Abcede, SMP Provincial Superior thanked the Ordaining Prelate as well as the generosity of the newly ordained priests and their family and friends. Confreres from the different communities of the Province, Theology professors, other members of the religious and diocesan clergy, formands, parents and relatives, benefactors and friends, and the Lay Rogationists joined the celebration.
Three pioneer Rogationists: Fr. Antonio Barbangelo, Fr. Diego Buscio and Fr. Vito Di Marzio arrived in the Philippines in 1976. Today, the Rogationists of St. Matthew Province is comprised of 82 Priests, 8 Deacons, 68 professed Religious in perpetual and temporary vows, 10 Novices, 16 Postulants, and 137 seminarians. They are present in 19 communities in six countries, namely: the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, South Korea and Australia.
