As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth (John 9,1)
The spiritually blind are the souls who do not have eyes to know the truth, who do not want to see the City built on high mountains, that is, the Catholic Church, who are groping in the darkness of error, while the sun of truth shines.
The most efficacious remedy for them is the Saving Power of Jesus. In fact our Lord wants to show in the Gospel how his Most Precious Blood heals the spiritual blindness. A blind man come up to our Lord and begs him; and Jesus Christ, mixing the clay with his saliva, forms a paste with which he smeared the eyes of the blind and orders to wash himself.
This is a symbol. The blind man is one who does not want to see the truth. The clay formed by the saliva is a symbol of the contrition by which God shows before the eyes of the sinner the mud of his own sins. The Saving Power applied in the Sacrament of Penance is the water where he washes the dirt of sins and opens his eyes to the truth.
The Saving Power of Jesus cures all kinds of spiritual infirmities, because it is like that river of which the Holy Scripture says, which flows in the terrestrial Paradise and maintains the plants evergreen. The Saving Power runs continually through the Catholic Church to all classes and makes the withered plants flourish again, revives those which are withering and evermore fortifies the sprouts which bear fruits of good works.
In order to profit from it, three things are needed:
1° We have to frequent the Sacraments, which have the Saving Power of Jesus.
2° We have to pray, because prayer is the Key which opens the doors of grace.
3° In praying, we have to ask God the graces through the merits of Jesus. God will not deny them from us.
