(Silang, April 17) The final day of the St. Matthew Province (SMP) General Assembly began with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Jose Maria Ezpeleta, Vicar General. The gathering also provided an opportunity for the SMP confreres to offer their well-wishes for his upcoming 60th birthday.
In his reflection on the Gospel of the multiplication of the loaves, Fr. Ezpeleta emphasized that Jesus does not only provide for us; He also empowers His disciples to give generously, mirroring the young boy who shared his five loaves and two fish, despite their limitations. "Jesus does not see our limitations; he sees our capacity to share with others." He encouraged the confreres to offer themselves as an act of generosity to the Congregation and the Church. He concluded his homily by reminding the religious that as they leave the assembly, they must emulate Jesus, who came to serve, not to be served. He emphasized Jesus's command to wash each other’s feet as an act of service and humility. He noted that the true fruit of this General Assembly is the mission to return to our communities and share the resurrected Jesus, whom we have encountered through the breaking of the bread and within our communal gathering in the Cenacle.
Before heading to the Rogationist College–Cavite auditorium for the closing proceedings, the confreres gathered for group photos in front of the statue of St. Hannibal Mary Di Francia. Afterward, the various working groups presented their final reports, incorporating insights gained during the Assembly's discussions. The floor was then opened for the confreres to share their personal reflections on the event.
To conclude, Fr. Ezpeleta provided a final synthesis and outlined the orientations for the next steps leading toward the 4th SMP Provincial Chapter, scheduled for October 13–19, 2026. Finally, Fr. Orville Cajigal, SMP Provincial Superior, offered the closing remarks and a word of thanks.
SMP Assemblea Generale, 5° Giorno: Tracciare la Rotta Insieme
(Silang, 17 aprile) L’ultima giornata dell’Assemblea Generale della Provincia San Matteo (PSM) è iniziata con la celebrazione eucaristica presieduta da P. Jose Maria Ezpeleta, Vicario Generale. È stata anche l’occasione per i confratelli della SMP di porgergli gli auguri per il suo imminente 60° compleanno.
Nella sua riflessione sul Vangelo della moltiplicazione dei pani, padre Ezpeleta ha sottolineato che Gesù non si limita a provvedere a noi; Egli dà anche ai Suoi discepoli la forza di donare generosamente, seguendo l’esempio del ragazzino che ha condiviso i suoi cinque pani e due pesci, nonostante i loro limiti. «Gesù non vede i nostri limiti; vede la nostra capacità di condividere con gli altri». Ha incoraggiato i confratelli a donarsi come atto di generosità alla Congregazione e alla Chiesa. Ha concluso la sua omelia ricordando ai religiosi che, una volta lasciata l’assemblea, devono emulare Gesù, che è venuto per servire, non per essere servito. Ha sottolineato il comando di Gesù di lavarsi i piedi a vicenda come atto di servizio e umiltà. Ha osservato che il vero frutto di questa Assemblea Generale è la missione di tornare nelle nostre comunità e condividere il Gesù risorto, che abbiamo incontrato attraverso la frazione del pane e nel nostro incontro comunitario nel Cenacolo.
Prima di recarsi presso l’Auditorium del Rogationist College – Cavite per la sessione conclusiva, i confratelli della PSM si sono riuniti davanti alla statua di Sant’Annibale Maria Di Francia per le foto di gruppo. Successivamente, i diversi gruppi hanno presentato nuovamente le loro relazioni con le integrazioni emerse durante le discussioni assembleari. In seguito, ai confratelli è stata data la possibilità di esprimersi riguardo all’Assemblea. P. Ezpeleta ha presentato la sintesi finale e gli orientamenti per i prossimi passi verso il 4° Capitolo Provinciale PSM, in programma dal 13 al 19 ottobre 2026. P. Orville Cajigal, Provinciale della PSM, ha concluso con i saluti finali e i ringraziamenti.
