20 Years of RCJ.ORG: A Testament to Innovation and Reliability
In 2004, a pioneering opportunity emerged for the Congregation of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus when Gmail introduced a beta-testing program enabling users to utilize their own domain names for email services. With the endorsement of Fr. Cesare Bettoni and the approval of the Superior General at the time, Fr. Giorgio Nalin, Fr. Rene Ramirez spearheaded the launch of the rcj.org Gmail service for the Rogationist Confreres. Notably, the congregation continues to benefit from this service as one of the privileged beta-testers, without incurring any charges for the service.
Originally registered in the United States, the domain name was strategically requested to be used by the central government of the congregation, while the United States delegation would utilize rogationists.org. Despite encountering initial resistance, the new email service has since become an indispensable component of the communities’ operations.
Reflecting on the journey of RCJ.ORG today, it is evident that what began as a novel and unfamiliar concept has evolved into a trusted and relied-upon service for the community. A noteworthy point is that had the service been launched today, it would cost approximately 8.4 U.S. dollars per user per month, underscoring the value it has provided over the years.
