STATEMENT: CREATING A CULTURE OF SAFEGUARDING

Here is the statement of the joint UISG-USG Workshop on Safeguarding held at the Fraterna Domus on Nov. 6-10, 2023 (English, Italian, Spanish, French).

STATEMENT: CREATING A CULTURE OF SAFEGUARDING

UISG-USG Safeguarding Workshop / Fraterna Domus, 6-10 November

On 6th November 2023, 133 members of 90 religious congregations gathered at Fraterna Domus north of Rome for a one-week workshop on Safeguarding. There were 78 female religious from 51 congregations and 55 male religious from 39 congregations. This important gathering of religious with responsibility for safeguarding was organized by the Care and Safeguarding Commission of the Unions of Superiors General (UISG / USG) in Rome.

Participants at the workshop on Safeguarding listened to presentations which were informative, profound, and challenging. There was an atmosphere of deep trust, openness and sharing which helped to create an environment wherein participants could reflect, ask questions, and engage in rich sharing at tables.

A crucial point in the workshop was listening to the testimony of two survivors of abuse. The pain and life-changing effects of abuse were evident in their what they shared with us. As policies and protocols for prevention and protection are formulated, what participants heard must impact how a culture of safeguarding should be created and lived as a Gospel culture.

The workshop was experienced as a synodal journey, with participants and presenters taking time to reflect together on each day’s input. Members of UISG and USG are committed to providing a culture of safeguarding and to model this Gospel culture in their respective congregations and ministries.

STATEMENT: CREARE UNA CULTURA DELLA TUTELA

Workshop UISG-USG sulla tutela / Fraterna Domus, 6-10 novembre

Il 6 novembre 2023, 133 membri di 90 congregazioni religiose si sono riuniti a Fraterna Domus, a nord di Roma, per un workshop di una settimana sulla tutela. Erano presenti 78 religiose di 51 congregazioni e 55 religiosi di 39 congregazioni. Questo importante incontro di religiosi responsabili della tutela è stato organizzato dalla Commissione Cura e Tutela delle Unioni dei Superiori Generali (UISG / USG) di Roma.

I partecipanti al workshop sulla tutela hanno ascoltato presentazioni informative, profonde e stimolanti. C'era un'atmosfera di profonda fiducia, apertura e condivisione che ha contribuito a creare un ambiente in cui i partecipanti hanno potuto riflettere, porre domande e impegnarsi in una ricca condivisione ai tavoli.

Un punto cruciale del workshop è stato l'ascolto della testimonianza di due sopravvissuti agli abusi. Il dolore e gli effetti dell'abuso che cambiano la vita erano evidenti in ciò che hanno condiviso con noi. Mentre si formulano politiche e protocolli per la prevenzione e la protezione, ciò che i partecipanti hanno ascoltato deve avere un impatto sul modo in cui una cultura della tutela deve essere creata e vissuta come cultura evangelica.

Il workshop è stato vissuto come un percorso sinodale, con i partecipanti e i relatori che si sono presi del tempo per riflettere insieme sui contributi di ogni giorno. I membri dell'UISG e dell'USG si impegnano a promuovere una cultura della tutela e a modellare questa cultura evangelica nelle loro rispettive congregazioni e ministeri.

Taller presencial UISG-USG / Fraterna Domus, 6-10 de noviembre

El 6 de noviembre de 2023, 133 miembros de 90 congregaciones religiosas se reunieron en Fraterna Domus, al norte de Roma, para participar en un taller de una semana sobre protección. Asistieron 78 religiosas de 51 congregaciones y 55 religiosos de 39 congregaciones. Este importante encuentro de religiosos responsables de la protección fue organizado por la Comisión de Cuidado y Protección de las Uniones de Superiores Generales (UISG / USG) de Roma.

Los participantes en el taller sobre protección escucharon presentaciones informativas, profundas y estimulantes. Hubo una atmósfera de gran confianza, apertura e intercambio que ayudó a crear un ambiente en el que los participantes pudieron reflexionar, hacer preguntas y compartir de manera enriquecedora en las mesas.

Un punto crucial del taller fue escuchar el testimonio de dos supervivientes de abusos. El dolor y los efectos del abuso que cambiaron sus vidas fueron evidentes en lo que compartieron con nosotros. A medida que se formulan políticas y protocolos de prevención y protección, lo que los participantes escucharon debe repercutir en la forma de crear y vivir una cultura de protección como cultura evangélica.

El taller se vivió como un itinerario sinodal, en el que participantes y ponentes se tomaron tiempo para reflexionar juntos sobre las aportaciones de cada día. Los miembros de la UISG y la USG se comprometen a proporcionar una cultura de protección y a modelar esta cultura evangélica en sus respectivas congregaciones y apostolados.

Il y avait 78 religieuses de 51 congrégations et 55 religieux de 39 congrégations. Cet important rassemblement de religieux responsables de la protection a été organisé par la Commission de protection des Unions des Supérieurs Généraux (UISG / USG) à Rome.

Les participants à l'atelier sur la protection ont écouté des présentations informatives, profondes et stimulantes. Il régnait une atmosphère de confiance, d'ouverture et de partage qui a contribué à créer un environnement dans lequel les participants ont pu réfléchir, poser des questions et s'engager dans des échanges fructueux autour des tables.
